DAY 36 – Learning what God thinks

Many new Christians wonder how they can know what God wants them to do. God reveals Himself to us through the Bible. He also shapes our hearts and lives through what we read in the Bible. Spending time in the Bible transforms us and it will bring you closer to God.

The Bible is God’s word, to show us how to live in a way that pleases Him.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realise what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. (2 Timothy 3.16-17)

The Word of God (the Bible) is a living and active word that can show you how to live your life for Jesus.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (Hebrews 4.12)

All believers need to understand God better and we can do this by reading and studying the Bible every day. As with any book, we must read it in context to truly understand its meaning and what God is saying. When we look at how big the Bible is that can feel a little overwhelming at first, but asking some simple questions will help you get the most out of each section you read.

Ask the following three questions:
– What does it tell me about God?
– What does it tell me about people?
– How should I be different because of this?

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1.22)

God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. (Psalms 18.30)

Prayer suggestions:

  • Ask God to help you to remember to read the Bible and trust that He knows what is best for you
  • Ask God to enable you understand the things you read so that you know what He thinks
  • Thank God that He will help you to change and live your life to please Him
