DAY 38 – Connecting with others

God did not design you to live alone. We are all created for community. We are stronger when we are living with others and not trying to do life alone. Christians need other believers around to encourage them, pray with them and support them. Your decision to follow Jesus is a really important event in your life. Think about who you know that is a follower of Jesus and tell them that you have decided to follow Jesus too. Ask if you could talk with them more about their faith journey.

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. (Acts 2.42-44)

Another aspect to community is the concept of serving. The Bible says that it is like we are all a different part of the body, and to work properly each part of the body needs to be active, performing it’s role and function. This means that each of ushas a special important Christian role to play in the big picture and together we make a difference to the world around us.

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.(Ephesians 4.15-16)

The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honourable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honourable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honour and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honoured, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. (1 Corinthians 12.21-27)

You need to think about how to use your time, your talents and your treasure to serve God. You have a role to play that only you can do. It is when we come together and serve Jesus together that we flourish and serve God well.

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. (1 Peter 4.10)
