If you are a new follower of Jesus then one of the next thingsGod wants you to do is to be baptised. Getting baptised is an outward picture of what has already happened inside you, it doesn’t make you a Christian but is something you do because you want to follow Jesus.
One day when the crowds were being baptised, Jesus himself was baptised. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy (Luke 3.21-22)
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28.19)
Another things that God wants you to do is to tell others about what Jesus has done for you. Start praying for those you know who don’t follow Jesus and ask Him to help you to have an opportunity to talk to them about Him. Remember that you are not told to save anyone or force them to believe, but simply to share the Good News, the Gospel. Only the Holy Spirit can open eyes and hearts to understand the truth about God. If you are getting baptised why not invite them to your baptism!
And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone (Mark 16.15)
Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done (Psalms 105.1)
When you get that opportunity to talk about Jesus, don’t be afraid. God is with you and will help you. Don’t feel like you need to know the answer to every question. Focus on sharing your story and the difference God has made in your life. Use simple words to explain how we all do bad things and need His forgiveness.
Worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. (1 Peter 3.15)
Don’t worry if your friends don’t immediately choose to follow Jesus, just continue totalk naturally to them about God and let Him use you.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1.8)
Thank you for spending these 40 days with us. Please continue to spend time reading the Bible and talking to God. Jesus is worth getting to know more and more each day!
- Ask Jesus to give you the courage to ask someone at a church about being baptised
- Ask God to help you to have the courage to tell others about what He has done for you
- Thank Jesus that He will help you to tell your friends about Him
